  1. Love the new AVX - great feel off all clubs and got same distance off tee as with NXT Tour S. Amazing feel with wedges and putter. Price is steep.
  2. From the Chicago area in Orlando for a golf event in early Nov. 2017 when I was informed about the new AVX ball at the Disney courses. I was told that if you buy a dozen, you can provide your feedback for a $20 refund. Sure enough, I tried to jump on the site to share my thoughts yet there was a maximum number to qualify (200) and I was too late. Not really a happy camper at this point.
I found the ball added approx. 4 - 6 yards to the 5 thru 9 irons with a higher ball flight. Hard for me to say with the 3 wood or Driver at this point as I was not hitting those clubs well. As far as my first introduction to the ball, I'm very please and hoping Titleist adds the AVX ball to there early season special to have them personalized!!!!

I played a round with the AVX and came out impressed. I am typically a high spin player with my driver, which limits my distance a bit. I usually play the ProV1x, and the AVX produced a lower ball flight and improved driver distance. I didn't notice significant differences with shots into or around the green vs. the ProV1x. At the right price point, this is a ball I would buy.

I played with an optic yellow AVX this afternoon at the suggestion of our pro here in Tennessee. I'm not sure what Titleist has done - must be some secret mojo sauce they have - but this ball went further than either a Pro V1 or NXT. I hit a drive off the toe and we measured it at 280 yards. that might have been a little help from the hard winter ground but I'm no 280 hitter. Nice feel around the greens and on the putter.

I agree with an earlier comment about the price. I paid $12 for a sleeve and that seemed steep to me. That being said, these will be in my bag for the Santa Open this Saturday!
  5. A buddy of mine, who lives out in California, mailed me a box of AVX balls. I live in NJ.

I have played about a dozen rounds with the AVX now, and have been extremely impressed with how well the ball has performed.

The ball seems to be extremely consistent. I’ve even noticed that it greatly reduces any side spin on my drives and iron shots.

Has a different feel putting, so I’m still getting used to it, on the greens, as compared to the ProV1x.

All and all it’s a solid ball that I will buy when it comes available in the northeast.

Saw these in my pro shop in Connecticut and grabbed a sleeve. Conversation with our assistant pro was that the spin rates on the ProV1 and ProV1X have come closer together in the last few years and the AVX was meant to be a lower spinning ball off the tee, but still have tour quality soft feel. While it was warm in CT for late November (50 degrees) it was exceptionally windy (guessing 15mph consistently with 30mph gusts). I normally play a ProV1X and would say this ball is as long off the tee. Some of the down wind tee shots seemed to go forever, but that could have been conditions. I had to get used to the spin on wedge shots and around the green. The ball feels extremely good coming off the face, but it definitely spins less on those wedge and short iron shots (which is what I’m looking for). I agree with the other poster about the price point. They were as expensive as ProV’s but from a performance perspective, that’s where this ball lives. This is not an NXT or velocity replacement. You can tell by looking at the cover when you pull one out of the sleeve. I’ll certainly pick up a box to play on golf trips over the winter or wait to try them out in optimal conditions next year.

AVX also showed up yesterday (or the day before?) here in South Carolina so I suppose they must be getting full release now. I picked up a sleeve to try out this weekend. But I've got to admit I'm pretty doubtful that the AVX is targeted at me.

I'm a total fan of the ProV1x and have been for the last three versions (2013, 2015, 2017). Part of the reason is that my swing lacks height and spin on my shots. A few balls out there are close to ProV1x in holding power but none are better. It is pretty much the perfect golf ball for my game.

So maybe AVX will also suit me. I do like the yellow color, admittedly a minor thing but true. But if it's even a tiny bit lacking in holding power on iron shots and pitches around the green I'm sticking with ProV1x.
  8. I would never draw firm conclusions after one round but today I played 17 holes with the yellow AVX before switching to a white ProV1x on the 18th because the sun had set and I was losing sight of the yellow ball in flight.

Shot 75 which is a new personal best round. Now I can’t necessarily credit the AVX with chipping in twice and making three longish putts but hey, it ain’t hurting my short game for sure!

The real test is getting in a few more rounds and see if it reliably hold greens on iron shots. But it seemed to today, so this is very promising.
  9. After three rounds plus an extra couple hours out on the course testing shots inside 50 yards (hitting the same shot with two AVX and two ProV1x to compare how they fly and react on the green) I’ve got to say the performance differences are pretty minor.

After my first round I thought the AVX was longer off the driver and had noticeably less spin around the greens. But today I played the two balls side by side off the tee and if there’s a difference it’s just a few yards of extra roll. Carry distance too similar to say there’s any difference.

And on routine shots from 20, 30, 40 yards both balls end up about the same place. But if the green is firm and running away from me (very challenging for a spin-challenged player like me) I can stop the ProV1x quicker from a clean lie. From the rough, no difference. From bunkers, no difference. And on shots outside 50-60 yards...you guessed it...no difference.

Finally, over the course of three rounds I could not tell any trajectory or distance differences on iron shots. And both balls hold firm greens well on full iron shots.

So I’ll probably keep playing AVX because I’ve always wished for a yellow ProV1. For my game, the AVX practically IS a ProV1 in most situations. A little more run out on the occasional drive is good, a bit less check on tricky pitch shots is a minus but overall there’s not much in it.
  10. After five rounds I’ve decided to stick with ProV1x. With each round AVX has seemed more and more like a lower flight version of the ProV1x that’s just enough different around the greens (slightly) I’d take a while to totally get used to it.

Given how much I’ve always liked ProV1x it would take a big advantage for me to switch to something else and I just don’t see any huge benefit to AVX. But I’m not one who cares a lot about “feel”.
  11. So, what do you do with a test ball that, at first, seems like a total paradox when compared with other balls? In my case, you learn to understand and appreciate its uniqueness. My comparison was made with the NXT Tour S and Velocity balls. At first handling, the test ball felt heavy and somewhat unresponsive. But what a surprise when I bounced the three balls side by side on the ground a few times! The test ball repeatedly "outbounced" these other two fine distance balls by 2 to 3 inches -- Surprise #1. Then, surprises #2 and 3 occurred when playing this test ball. Many people equate a soft feel off the club face paired with a very muted sound when struck as being an indicator of a lack of distance. Not this ball! Whether struck with a driver, fairway wood, hybrid, long or short iron, the test ball virtually sprung into action, usually outdistancing both of the other balls. It also posseses a unique quality of being able to stop softly on the green when struck with a hybrid or iron. Its performance in the short game brought surprise #4. Chip shots responded well from all over the green. Long chip shots of 35 to 60 feet were impressive by the way they checked up near the hole, leaving short putts. In this category, the test ball place a close second to the NXT Tour S ball. The soft feel in putting could be a confidence booster for those needing to strike their putts harder than usual. The one drawback in putting is that the muted sound off the putter face provides very little feedback on how well the putt is struck -- will take some getting used to, as many players are accustomed to the "click" off the putter face.
Conclusion. A surprisingly fine ball in almost every respect. However, because of its soft feel off the club face and muted sound when struck, it may take some patience to appreciate all its qualities.

Found the AVX in NY at the PGA store. The ball plays fine. Nice feel, similar to the Chrome-Soft. But at $47/dz? Not worth $8 more than a Pro-V.
I understand this is a prototype release, but right now, you're just paying for the name and hype. If it never goes into production, you won't miss it.

If This is the ball I got to test a couple weeks ago up in the Northwest. I am looking forward to seeing this ball up in the Northwest. hope I get to Get my hands on a dozen . so I can take them with me to Arizona or Las Vegas.

I tried the new AVX balls today. I agree with much of what has been said. The golf ball is a perfect option for my game with less spin plus roll out on the driver, plus soft on short iron shots. I actually like it better that the Pro V1. $55 in our pro shop.
  15. This golf ball is also being sold at some pro shops in Colorado. I played this ball along with my partner on 12/2/17 at the Hyland Hills golf course in Westminster. I'm a 54 year old 6 handicap that normally plays the pro VIx for comparison.

I cant say if one round of golf is a measure, but my 75 tied for my best round of the year with this ball, while my partner also played well and liked the performance of the ball. I found the distance with the AVX to be comparable to the Pro VIx. The real difference for me was a noticeably lower trajectory, consistent ball flight, and definitely a softer feel and roll around the greens. I didn't think I would like a lower ball flight, but by the end of the round I was sold given the consistency of the ball flight. The ball seems to actually have a different sound off the club (and putter), and I like it. The ground is hard in Colorado this time of year, but it sure seems as though the ball has noticeably more roll (lower spin?) than the pro VIx. I will definitely play this ball again.

The pro shop was selling these balls for 13.99 a sleeve, and I don't know if Titleist will sell these balls at lower cost through retail outlets but it would surely make it more competitive (I bought one and did not loose a ball).
  16. Continuing to play the AVX here in Florida. AVX is a GREAT golf ball. Very long, nice and soft, and checks nicely on the greens. The best Titleist ball by far. Please, please put this ball in to full production and make it available for custom orders!
  17. I visited LA last month and played golf with my college buddies. One of them carried AVX and gave us a slip each. I have been playing with Prov1 X for almost 10 years and found AVX balls were a little softer. In terms of distance, I honestly felt there was not much difference. It has softer feel and seemed like it gave me more spins around the greens. I didnt see more spins off iroms but the greens that I played were very hard and no balls could hold well there. My buddies who live in CA all said the balls were much softer and gave more distance and spins overall. I dont exactly see where the balls are positioned. Do they target the cally Chrome Soft which are well appealing to those who seek distance with softer feel than the Prov1? Price seem a bit expensive and I tend to stay with Prov1x as I prefer crispy feel off the driver and putter.
  18. Tried these balls yesterday, I'm a mid to high handicap golfer and these seemed to fly strait, distance was great and they feel really nice on the green. are they worth $5 a ball? For me absolutely not.

The guy at the pro shop mentioned these are targeted at that mid handicap golfer and at the official launch they plan to have a Pro Variant for the lower handicap players.
  19. I have used the AVX for 2 months and will never play another ball. I hit it at least one club farther and it spins as good as the Pro V1 around the green. I hope Titleist continues it after the trial.
  20. I got to use the AXV ball in Illinois and played really well with it. Used it for one round, and could feel the difference. Cannot wait for it to come to Illinois for good!
  21. Have played the AVX for two rounds. One ball, it still looks new. Excellent distance and feel with all clubs. I've been hoping for a yellow Pro-V quality Titleist for quite a while. After playing two rounds, I bought 3 more sleeves. A bit expensive, but I really like the ball. If I can keep from losing many, they will be worth it.
I'm not a robot, but only one of the images contained cars (others contained other vehicles).
  22. I have tried these new AVX golf balls and they compare very nicely to the Chrome Soft that I play. I have been looking for a good Titleist golf ball that was in yellow. I can not wait to put this ball into a competitive round of golf.
  23. Tried the AVX first time yesterday. I improved distance by about 10 - 15 yards. The irons as well and had to dial back on distance. The ball has a different feel when putting from the Pro-V and will have to make that change. It's a bit pricey at this point. It may be tough to justify.
  24. All I can say is, wow regarding the new AVX ball. I play a round yesterday on the Wiakoloa GC in Hawaii and hit this ball for the first time. The ball compressed off my driver and the flight, elevation and distance was noticed immediately. The ball ran out a good thirty yards further then I’m use to. The irons felt the same compression as the driver and, again, the elevation spin was immediately noticed. The ball around the green performed with better control and landed softly on the green. On the three par holes, the ball landed softly and didn’t really see a difference as compared to the ProV1. Overall, more distance then the ProV1 using the woods and better controlled with the irons. This new ball is my ball of choice in the future......thank you Titleist, great job.
