Mine is my best friend and she is also easy on the eyes so I get distracted sometimes. Plus she can hold her own (cutting up when playing with the guys) . How about you any other golfing couples?

I've convinced my wife to play with me two times. She openly hates the game because 1) of the time investment and 2) she admits to being terrible with no interest in learning how to play. I did get her to drive a cart three times last year when I took the kids out - it's amazing how much influence a good bloody mary has.

If you have access to a par 3 nine hole course, it's a great place to introduce the game to someone who is new or doesn't play golf regularly. A 3.5 to 4.5 hrs golf round is a commitment, so I completely understand her position. Another thought is to find a Ladies or Women's golf group which she can join. There are options out there if she's open to playing the game.

Count me and my wife as another one of the golfing couples. Our regional golf association (the NCGA) holds multiple Mixed Couples tournaments annually and we do our best to attend as many as we can. We've been fortunate enough to win our flight. Most of the tournaments are a modified alternate shot format, so things can get rocky if the partnership is not solid on and off the course. It's always a treat when she'll randomly ask, "Hey, want to play a quick 9?"

Thank you Chuck! Also, with all the TT events on the schedule this year, I'm sure our paths will cross. Stay healthy my friend!

It’s been super fun to have a shared obsession with my hubby. Regarding the mixed couples scotch alternate shot format, it definitely lent to some rocky moments in our first couple attempts as a team. Abdon hates when I tell this story but I think it was our second time playing this format when we stopped speaking to each other after the 3rd hole. And after the last full shot was hit onto the green by me on hole 18, I turned to him and said “don’t you ever ever ever ever ever sign us up for this again! ) We happened to somehow win the tourney that day (way back in 2000) so of course he didn’t listen to me and we’ve since learned each others “golf languages” well enough that it’s much more fun competing in that format, haha.

That golf story will follow me until my last days and live in infamy. The trophy is proudly displayed in our living room as reminder of how a shared goal and strong partnership can move mountains

My wife and I have golfed together for many years. She has been battling health issues the last few years so she hasn’t played much. Doing much better now and looking forward to playing together more this upcoming season.

My wife loved playing for a few years but has aged out. Still misses it and enjoys attending events without playing.

It's nice that more resort courses are incorporating putting and par 3 courses which gives golfers who can't tackle a full course an opportunity to join in on the fun

I attempted to get my wife to golf with me 2 years ago, ended up giving her clubs I got her to her cousin. She’s just not into it, but she’ll go occasionally to drive the cart and enjoy some wine.

I said no to playing. I did took her to the Heritage at Hilton Head where a lemo met us and took us to a suite where we watched the tournament in comfort. We went there also a number of times with a golf course superintendent and his wife. One year I aced free tickets to the Master's and she decided she needed to see what that was all about. Our dentist offered us Sunday passes to the US Open at Pinehurst so we drove up for the day. Got free tickets and place to hang out, to the St Judes in Memphis and she tagged along. We did spend a wonderful weekend together when I worked for Kindercare. I played in the the MDA Celebrity tournament at Hilton Head. A three day tournament, with lots of awesome activites for four nights. We were invited by MDA all expenses paid. To go with me to play or watch me play in actual competition, NOT. For fun and socializing, she is there. Golfing together would not be a pretty sight for us. Watching it socially, we get along great. Maybe it was the refreshments. =)

My wife got hooked on golf when she and I got hitched. She likes to get out with her girlfriends and play 9 holes when the weather is good. I've committed to golfing with her about once a month but I think she enjoys playing with her friends more. I tend to get too serious about the game for her to want to play more often with me. For her the game is more about golf fashion and socializing. She refuses to take lessons, and I learned a long time ago NOT to offer any advise. We do enjoy our time on the course, and I get a kick out of her post game comments on how she played.

My wife and I play with other couples from time to time and it's never a good thing when one person in the couple is giving on course golf instructions while the other is not hearing any of it. It makes for a long day and those post round drinks can't come soon enough

To me this was a funny story. Played as a single one Sunday this Fall. Got paired up with a guy and his wife. Really nice couple. Had a great time playing with them. He is trying to give her pointers during the front 9 and as you can guess she's having none of that. On probably hole 10 or 11, he drops her off at her ball and drives up to find his. She's been chunking it all day. After she hits and does it again, I offer her a little tip to get her to stop doing that. It was one of the things her husband had already told her more than once btw. She does what I told her to do on her next shot. Rips her shot up onto the green. Her husband is like, "you finally did what I was telling you, great shot". She goes, "no you didn't that guy told me that". We all had a great laugh about it. He knew she wasn't listening to him at all.

Brad we're in the same zip code. I split my time between Hunters and Finkbine - let me know if you ever want to play!

My wife is a great athlete, and enjoys playing the occasional round of golf with me. Being a good athlete, the patience and time commitment to playing decent golf seems to be more than she's willing to commit to, and then she gets frustrated when she plays poorly. I get it, I'm right there with her...except I'm obsessed with golf and willing to devote significant more time to it than her. Either way, always a great time when we get out and play together!

My fiancé is not interested in playing golf. She likes going to Topgolf or riding in the cart but that's it. Had an ex-wife that I played a bunch of golf with. That was one of the few things we actually enjoyed doing together. Haha. I've seen the pluses and minuses both ways. If I had to pick one, it would probably be that the wife doesn't golf. Need that time with my buddies.

We met on the first tee and over the last 23 years have played on our honeymoon, won 17 Couples Championships, play 40+ rounds together in Fl in the winter and she has caddied for me in a few Sr events.
  23. I very much enjoy playing with my wife but I do need to focus more on her game than mine so it purely social...definitely fun with other couples!

    Cheers

Chris, Its taken me 5 years or so, but I no longer focus on my wife's round and her swing. I enjoy the round more and don't get in as much trouble. LOL

    Great subject, Dave N.
I taught my then GF, now wife, how to play in 2014. She really got into the game during the pandemic. In August of 2020, we could not decide what to do for vacation. Flying was out due to the high risk. So I thought of a few things to do, but we had already been to The White, Green and Adirondack Mountains of New England and NY a few times. So, I asked the question that changed the game of golf for her forever.

I had visited Myrtle Beach in the early to mid 90's with some work buddies, twice, so I knew it was a great golf destination. The Legends was all the talk about Myrtle, back then, so I always wanted to play there. I saw pictures of the Clubhouse and 3 courses all in one location! It was very pricey at the time, but I knew someday I would have to play there.

"JoJo would you consider driving to Myrtle Beach for a week and play golf and go to the beach"? She said "Yes". So I booked a trip to The Legends @ Myrtle. We played all week, had a blast at the beach. It was the best vacation we had together since we started dating in 2011. She was hooked forever, she loved it. We play 36 holes a few days and she hung in there with me and was happy as pie. I knew right there and then, this is the ONE! We married 3 years later and are both avid golfers playing every chance we get.

So in 2025 we are hitting another one of my bucket list destinations, the RTJ Trail in Alabama. I am out of my mind happy about that. Plus fishing with a tournament Pro guide on the Tennessee river one day. 5 golf locations, 7 rounds, 3 hotels and then going to Roll into Tuscaloosa on our Last day. A visit to legendary coach, Paul W. Bryant Museum, then Saban field at Bryant-Denny stadium!

    Thanks for reading

My wife and I used to play a lot more in the past, but she developed arthritis in her hands and keeps it to once a week with the ladies. She made a hole-in-one last Thanksgiving week. She can still blast it off the tee.

Any ladies out there with any good stories about playing with your spouse?

Dave - My husband and I play every weekend, take golf trips together, talk golf, and watch it on TV. I actually started it long before he did but he was playing when we met. He was there when I shot by lowest and I was there when he got his first hole in one…I think he was more excited for me on my low score and I was more excited for him on his hole in one. He is the one who gets us matching bags and every year schedules my fittings - one year for irons, next year for woods and rotates it as needed. That’s not to say on the golf course we want to hear from each other when we are struggling…we don’t…we just hmm, uh, oh, when the other is not, well, happy.

  29. My wife started playing a few years ago, first at an executive course and last year finally on the "big" courses. We usually play once a week. Trying to find a way to get her in the back yard to practice her short game.
  30. My wife and I would occasionally play together in family events. Even played a really nice nine and dine for our anniversary one year. I'd like to get her out more so that could influence future travel plans. But here's hoping.

She has horses, I have golf. As long as those horses cost more than my club membership, the stars have aligned properly!
  32. We live on the Oak Point course, part of the Kiawah group of courses. We play together at least one time a week. Key is to have expectations in order. 1) exercise… we walk. 2) appreciate the environment… golf course is never a bad place to be . 3) Hit a few good shots along the way and don’t get too worried about the score! Works for us!

It's hard trying to get a girlfriend/spouse into the game. When people can't hit the ball its not fun. Depending on the time of year a lot of people can be annoyed by slow play. I usually just pay for two tee times if someone is just going to ride along.
