Fall before the greens are punched. They are fast and smooth and you get to start wearing your new mid layers and possibly a knit beanie!

I like your notion, Mark F. Fall golf, as the courses really start to look better and the weather starts to cool down, can be far better than summer golf here in the Houston, TX area with its hot, humid summers (late Apr-late Oct). We just don't get the color you speak of around here. Just keep that early fall snow in Prescott, not here in Texas!

    Fall always, give me colors
  4. Sad day up here in minny, courses are closing by the day..
  5. I have a bad left knee and for a right handed golfer that’s tough. Wondering if a same length iron is better for bad knees. Hit my 6 iron better than my pw.
  6. Summer for the daylight; fall for colors and the extra challenges (leaves flying everywhere)

Fall golf in New York was the best, only see it occasionally these days.

The best time of the year for South Texas is undoubtably mid-late fall. The biggest conflicts will always be heat or daylight for South Texas.
  9. Summer the courses are in great shape but the warm weather makes me loose to play better!
  10. Better ball striking when I am warm

Hard to fault the fall in the UK, the mud is sticky, the ball doesn't run and cleaning kit takes forever, plus you can drive home in the dark, it just reminds me of my rugby playing days !

The warm weather is starting to fade, and Winter is approaching. As seasons are starting to shift, we want to know which season of the year is your favorite to play golf. Let us know in the quick poll below and add a comment to tell us why!

Sept is the best month in New England but 36 in the summer never gets old

I prefer summer, but having the course to yourself because it's cold, windy, and raining buckets ain't too shabby either! Fall tends to keep the casual away - or maybe it just brings the real idiots out.

  14. I play year round but nothing beats a cold sunny winter day for me... keep me out of the rain and elements up here in the PNW (pretty much impossible). But when we do get those rare sunny winter days its hands down the best.

All you lucky dogs in the sun belt, or close to it. We here in IL are staring at pitch black at 5 pm! Seriously depressing! No more 9 holes after work…..now I have to burn up vacation days to play in the week. We’re having a decent Indian summer, but soon it will end. Weekends are all we have now! I’m jealous of all you “ mild climate” guys, and or AZ that doesn’t change the clocks. At least 3-4 more holes of “speed golf” with a nice bourbon in hand!

Love Summer in Wisconsin with the early tee times and setting pace of play. Nothing worse than getting stuck behind a slow group or dealing with frost delays in fall. Now that it's almost Winter having the course to our foursome is great. Only the diehard golfers still teeing it up

Spring…. That’s when it’s cooler and the green grass is coming in. It’s too freakin hot in the Texas summer.

You boys up north can have the summer. Of course you do not have to suffer thru HOT and HUMID days where walking to your car in the parking lot is a real task. In some states in the South where the heat index way over 110+. Me, I would be heading north in the summer.
And this is why you all come to SC and FL to play. We do love our 2.5 seasons Summer, Fall, Winter/Spring. Enabling us to play the year round. Believe me, we are blessed. Our greens are absolutely wonderful now. A nice 11, very smooth and the temperatuve is in the 80's. Now this golf weather conditions.

Because of course conditions I prefer summer.
It gives me an accurate assessment of my game.

    Standard roll out on drives,
Standard lies around green because grass is green and full.
Native grass is tall and can't find my ball in it.
Rough lets the ball sit down in it deeper.
Greens roll better after aeration in spring

  20. Those walking 18s by my lonesome at twilight in the summer are some of my favorite golf memories.
