You might look at 2ndswing.com for some used AP1 with ladies flex and length shafts and they should have some prior generation drivers and fairways in similar shafts. A nice Titleist Players 4 bag in colors she likes will do the trick. There might be some prior generation bags on sale at Academy Sports or Dick's. Pick up some stylish knit head covers if she goes for the feminine look.

Talked to my contact her and she said that it could be difficult find women's used clubs. Women tend to hold onto clubs longer than men do. I called to see if they had any used, because they do an online business as well as a retail/fitter/repair business. Picked up a demo wedge from them today on the way home from the Dr. l

Be a good dad and see if she needs lessons. A good pro can view her status and recommend some potential used options. There are women that play the pastel colored sets for mixed scrambles. The more athletic women need something closer to men’s clubs. The pro will be your best resource.

Not sure in TX, but further north the LPGA pros offer 4-6 week beginners classes in July. Have to admit, since they typically end in wine-o-clocks, I’m half tempted to sign up for one myself….

Same situation with my daughter. She played about 3 rounds a year in her early teens, and nothing after high school until about 2 years ago. Now in her early 30's and plays about a dozen rounds a year.
I bought her 3 lessons with a local instructor to hone in her swing a bit and advise her on what to look for in clubs, and recommend you do the same. She is 5'-4 and pretty slim but has good ball speed so her instructor recommended a men's regular set but cut down an inch. Was lucky enough to find a good used set that was fitted to that set-up. Works well for her, and she said she will consider a fitting if she keeps playing.

Hey Ron - I'm wondering if golf shops or big box stores like PGA Superstore would have trade-ins or demo clubs that are available for less than retail. I always had good luck at a Roger Dunn's/Edwin Watts. Good Luck in your search for some new clubs!

For the time being, I would suggest that she go to Dick's, Golf Galaxy or PGA Tour Superstore where they sell full sets, including the bag, at reasonable prices. Then when she's ready, she could go for a fitting and trade in or sell by herself the entire set which may be easier to do than buying some random clubs.

You could also just get her a mini set of clubs, 3/5 wood and 7 - s/w. Note that even the women in my women’s league play senior shafts not women’s and they are retired.

I am with Don O on this one. You can find a number of used clubs on the market....craigslist for starters.
But above all else, get her lessons. A good foundation to start with is a plus!
My mistake early on and I'm paying the price for it.

If she is in the market for new clubs, Titleist Fit Crew events usually have a small fee for the fitting and the cost of the fitting can be applied to the purchase of clubs which would make the nominal fitting fee free. It's not a bad deal considering you're getting a trained Titleist Fit Crew member...check the Fitting tab on the Titleist site for events near her.

When I started out, I bought a used set of PINGs with a senior shaft to see how I even like the game. 1.5 years later I spent the money on a fitting and bought a new set.

The first question is if she is athletic? If she played softball and can swing a bat then she probably will have good swing speed for a girl. That will determine if she needs women's flex or just regular men's flex in the shafts. You don't want to buy something that she can't swing properly. She will not find it fun if she can't hit the ball in the right direction or with some power. I live in DFW area as well and she could go to PGA Superstore in Southlake to try out what flex works best for her before she makes a decision.

Probably a good one or two there at the Grapevine Municipal course.

I started out with a used set of Lady Cobra irons, Driver, 7 and 9 wood. My putter was one I had for a long time, a brass head png. Worked fine at the beginning.

Check out Titleist Certified. It's new (I think) and they sell used/demo Titleist clubs at a discount. Also I recently purchased some T200's from Golf Galaxy on clearance. They let me use their 15% "sign up for text" coupon on the irons. Saved a lot on those.
