  1. Hey guys. My old 64-07 is conforming and they were produced after the new rule came out. It’s a spin milled c-c with u grooves but I’m not sure if anything changes at the end of 2023. I’ll definitely keep using it but wondering if it’s legal for tournament play and Amateur competitions.

Some tournaments do ban them already so before I played them, I would check with any tournament committee, specifically asking them, not assuming it was okay to avoid another player from calling you out. Just my suggestion…
  3. Thanks Dale! Those were my thoughts as well. I can’t find a definitive yes or no answer anywhere yet so I’ll go that route unless I hear anything before the spring.

Anything SM4 and later is “street legal”. I think the reason they discontinued 64-07 was lack of sales. They also discontinued 62-07T after SM5. I wasn’t aware until recently that 54-08M was discontinued as a production model.
  5. The sm4’s are fine but that’s not what I have. I have a spin milled c-c that came out just before the sm4’s as the first with legal grooves. The stamped c-c model had a yellow saw blade instead of red to identify it as having the new grooves. I’ve been digging up lots of old articles about it but there’s not much. Everything just refers to the sm4’s….which I think this c-c model should classify as with the same grooves. They were a limited run with some cool tour grinds. The t grind I have on this old one is nothing like the new sm9 t grind I got to replace it. Trying to get something lefty on wedgeworks in a matching wedge has been quite the test over the past few years. I could bend my 60 and take it to the bench grinder but it still won’t get me what I want

The USGA lists confirming wedges. They also list when non-conforming wedges have to retired.
My understanding is the SM4 were the first post rule change. But since I moved on 10 years ago I have more rust in my memory than a raw Vokey left on a beach.
  7. The spin and smaller sole on the older wedges are night and day compared to the new ones for me. I stocked up a few years ago because it’s almost impossible to find something left handed in Canada or online to replace them. I’ve used the sm7’s, sm8’s and now have the 9’s but they don’t even come close to the old ones in terms of feel and turf interaction for me. I’ll keep using the 52/58 sm9’s but I’ll definitely just keep busting the new “old” 64’s out of the closet as long as they’re legal. Thanks for the info, I forgot they had all that info on the USGA site. I appreciate it Don!
  8. Should be fine but check anyway or you could have a great round and it be null because somone is to official
