All depends on your budget. We have the resort courses at Kiawah which are rather expensive. The Ocean Course is a highly rated course, 1991 Ryder Cup, two PGA Championships, Sr Pga Championships, two World Cups. The Ocean Course is a walking course before noon with caddie (required), with greens fee, caddie plus tip could run you around $800-$1000 because that is premium time of the year. And you would not be staying on the property.

The City of Charleston Municipal Course (The Muni) has been renovated with Seth Raynor type greens, bunkers and is a real challenge. I has been rated as the #19 muni in the US by Golf.com. A real challenge and if you are not a single digit golfer recommend you move up on the tees and have some fun. It will humble the best. The best Beau Hossler could manage his second time around was a 68, according to our staff. There are four holes that you will agree that TNT and tons of soil could improve them. Just a bit of local humor. I play there three days a week. The greens can, at times be really fast, because they roll them at least three times a week. I believe the out of town rate runs around $80 dollars with cart fee. They do NOT talk walk ups. Reservations online only. www.charleston-sc.gov

These are two that most people want to play when they come to this area.

The premium courses, such as: Bulls Bay, Country Club of Charleston, Yeamans Hall, and Daniel Island are private, but are awesome courses to play, if you belong to a club and your pro can get you on.

Stono Ferry is south of Charleston and is a good trek. Wescott is a municipal course in N Charleston and has 27 holes. Patriots Point is in Mt Pleasant at the Military Museum, but very overpriced for out of towners.

Awesome - and thank you! I'll be staying at the Marriott on Meeting and Woolfe. It'll be my first time back since the mid 2000's. I used to fly into Hunter AAF frequently for training flights, and we'd enjoy ourselves thoroughly in Chucktown. Charleston and Savannah were my two most favorite places to stop as a young Marine Corporal with per diem money, I'm looking forward to enjoying the city a little more responsibly this time around!

I looked at the Kiawah courses briefly, but I don't think the others in my group will be down to drop that much cash for a round. I'd probably also receive a stern talking to from my accountant/wife/designated-fun-hater, who will be accompanying me on this trip.

I'm all for getting my butt kicked by the course - the Muni looks like a great opportunity to knock myself down a few more pegs! I'll also try to check out Lewis, it looks like I'm just a few blocks south from there.

My pleasure. When traveling, I wear my Chucktown tee shirt. When asked where that is, I simply say my town. I do live in Charleston, across the river in Mt Pleasant. We kid and say Charleston is a suburb of Mt P. Water's Edge and Lola's in Mt Pleasant are two good places to eat. Seafood at WE and a taste of New Orleans at Lola's. Recommend reservations at both. Would recommend Page's Okra grill in Mt P, but wait time could be up to one hour to get in on weekend. Have to remember one thing when visiting, Charleston, it is the number one tourist destination. Hope you guys have a great time. When you play the muni, never fly the ball to the flag. You are inviting danger. The course is one that you can enjoy walking. Lots of beautiful birds, gators. The have the big wheel pull carts. No coolers. Water comes into play on twelve holes.

I don't have any Charleston golf tips, but if you have a chance to dine at a restaurant called Royal Tern (on Johns Island) don't hesitate - one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten in. Also, Southern General is a really cool spot for lunch.

Booked Patriot's Point for Wednesday morning - 10 minutes across the bridge from the hotel. Mixed reviews about course condition, so we'll see how it goes!

Know I am late but built on a former garbage dump from many many years ago. A lot of methane gas underneath there. Fairways can be rolly polly at times. Need a lot of dirt brought in. I was a member there for about right years. Club champion runner up last year I was there, which was in the mid 90's. A good wide open course to have fun on, but absolutely way overpriced for what you get. Not really much of a challenge, except , except 15-18. They cater to the tourists business. Great crew working there. Good people. Greens ok.
