At Titleist, we think and talk about golf ball performance in terms of Flight, Spin and Feel. Everyone's game is unique and golfers have very different needs and preferences when it comes to these characteristics. By designing golf ball models that fly, spin and feel differently, you can find just the right golf ball to optimize performance for your individual game.
For some players, feel is a preference, a nice-to-have – but a characteristic that would not disqualify a golf ball model that performs really well in terms of flight and spin. But for others, feel is a non-negotiable. For these players, if a golf ball feels or sounds too soft or too firm it can throw off their sense of touch and control with the ball. This can lead to doubt and the player's entire game can suffer.
For me personally, feel is a nice-to-have. Feel is most important to me in the short game, then putting and least important on full shots. I've always preferred the softer feel of Pro V1, but if a new V or X model comes out that is flying farther, cutting through the wind better and/or holding greens better, I'm confident that I'll be able to adapt to a different feel and sound at impact.
How about you? Where does Feel rank in importance alongside Flight and Spin? Is it a must-have or a nice-to-have? And where in your game do you rely non feel the most?
