  1. I have multiplied Scotty’s and always seem to gravitate back to my Newport 2. Today I will be gaming my new phantom 5.5 to give a mallet a try. What’s everyone’s thoughts going from blade to mallet or vise versa ? Any tips ?

Have always been a fan of the Anser putter, which in our circle, translates into a Newport. Over the years I have tried numbers brands and styles and always come back to the original that started it all and of course in a Newport. I have only two gamers in my arsenal. 2020 Special Select Newport 2 and 2022 Png PLD Black matte milled Anser. One for fast greens and one for regular greens. It seems that style sets up well for me and I just love the feel. Mine are 1* flat.

Frank M, I’m kind of the opposite of you.

My putting stroke tells me I should use a face-balanced putter, which is mostly limited to mallets. But after trying several blade putters I seem to have really good results from a stroke/feel perspective.

I have been playing my same Scotty Cameron Fastback 1.5 since 2011 and love it. That said, it’s not face-balanced. So when Scotty Cameron released the Monoblok 6 I waited in line and bought one. It’s a very nice mallet, face-balanced, and I’m rolling puts well.

BUT, I’d like for my next one to be a Scotty Cameron Newport Circle T because I want to be able to change it up and hit with a blade. Feel like using the blade when greens are fast allows me to get better feel for speed. At least thats my hope…

Newport 2. Will probably be the last putter I ever use unless I go after a Napa…
  5. I have both. I never seemed to warm up to my Newports, and I was always told that my stroke was made for a mallet/face balanced putter. For a while, I loved my Futura 5 and 5.5s, but more recently, the Newports are really catching my eye and feel. I don't think I'll ever stay in love with any one putter forever.

I played a newport 2 for a few years and loved it, clinched an epic birdie in the 18th to win my 1st scratch club championship but ive had the 5.5 in the bag for a year now and it isnt coming out anytime soon.

Ive never been a bad putter, currently playing off 4hcp but my outting has got even better since switching to the 5.5

Hopefully you like the 5.5 as much as i do !
  7. Every since my wide flange Acushnet Bullseye I suppose I've preferred a mallet styled putter. I recently switched to a Scotty Phanton 11 and I love it with excellent results. I hope you experience the same with your 5.5.

  9. Blade all the way, I just don't like the look of mallet putters

    I’m a mallet man,
back in the day I used a png my day putter for years.
But since switching to Scotty Cameron putter I just feel more confident, this was after a Titleist fitting about 6/7 years ago.
I’ve had x5 then the x7 but not I’m gaming the phantom 12 and love it ️‍♂️

Just can’t beat the look of a classic Scotty blade! Especially the older versions. I’m still rocking my old school Newport Mil Spec. Will never change.
  12. The biggest difference could be toe flow or how you swing your putter. I would make the decision on the type of putter you prefer looking at and the swing path (SBST or like a gate).

The combination of the two will have you arrive at the correct answer for YOUR game!

    Cheers,
    Chris
  13. I have tried moving to a mallet putter over the past few seasons ……but I always find myself going back to my Newport 2.5.

This topic is always a fun one! I was a blade guy growing up, then used the original 2-ball for a very long time before going back to a blade (my first Scotty). I’ve tried different Scotty mallets but I’ve never enjoyed the shaft bends on any mallets. I lost all confidence in my Newport 2 last year and was tinkering around with my buddy’s flow neck Newport and I liked how it swung, but didn’t like how it looked. So I went to a store and spent an hour putting with everything and fell in love with the flow neck on the Cameron phantom x 9.5. Not terribly large in the head AND it has the flow neck. Best of both worlds. Excited to use it for a full season this year.

I like my Newport 2 over anything but those phantoms look amazing!!

I love the look of a blade and tried a Newport and Newport 2 for most of last year but I definitely need the forgiveness of the mallet. The phantom x 5.5 is back in the bag.
  17. There's just something about a classic blade that I can't get away from. Aside from a brief period with an Odyssey Rossie 2, I've always used an NP2/Anser 2 style blade.

I have several in my collection:

    Phantom X 7.5 2022
    Phantom X 5.5 2021
    Newport Select 2020
    Futura 6M 2018
    Studio Select Newport 2008
    Newport Platinum Mil-Spec 2002

The gamer and most consistent for me is the 6M...It's a Ball Rolling Machine!!!

My bud and I had a long convo on this yesterday. I love the look and classic feel of the blade and played them for years, but I keep coming back to my Fastback 1.5. The feeling when you hit the sweet spot is unmatched. I've made too many birdies with it to put her away.

Retired my Newport 2.5 when gifted a Red years ago. Love the looks and balance of the former, but the Red alignment and distance control works better for me. Can’t get used to the newer wing designs.
  21. I always have loved the look of the blade and had scotty 1.5, 2, 2.5 new and old but they just don’t work for me. I would by one, love it’s looks but then go back to a mallet. Look at the next newly released, fall in love and buy one. But always revert to mallet and on and on. I have finally realised blades are not for me.

I used the Newport Blade for a long time. Then I booked an appointment at Scotty's studio for a real putter fitting a couple of years ago and discovered the Del Mar, it's compact mallet and really has been the best fit for me. I'll probably never go back to blade putter.
