Real or Fake? How do you know ? What are the tell signs?

    Which of these are real?

Numbers 3 and 5 are fake. The font is not correct. As for 1, 2, & 4 - I am not an expert nor good enough to tell if those are fake based on thickness of the numbers, however the font sytle looks correct to me.

Not an expert here as well, but I would not be looking at the font. I would be more concerned about the threads and the casket that actually makes it fit the head of the putter and the wrench that you install it with. I only get mine thru a S Cameron dealer or thru his shop. I will not take a chance when it comes to getting the wrong weight. So you save $20 and really screw up the putter. I am leery of anything on eBay. Just me and just sayin'. You know, buyer beware.

I've often wondered the same thing with telling which was real vs fake. Ebay always scared me a bit this way. Still though, what are the tell tale signs and how are you so positive that 3 and 5 are fake? Problem with Scotty is that they are never in stock unless you send your putter in and they are a lot more expensive than you think.

Dak, as noted by Chuck the only surefire way to get authentic weights is to purchase from Titleist/Scotty Cameron when available. As for your question of my determination regarding 3 and 5 above - my own experience in owning Scotty putters and being familiar with the product is what I am leaning on. The glaring detail to me is the font. That font is not a font that SC has used on putter weights. As for pictures 1, 2, & 4 while the font looks ok, and the wrench pattern looks good too, without additional pictures it is difficult to say for sure regarding the authenticity of those weights.

If I need additional weights, I go to my local Titleist dealer to purchase them. Picked up a couple of 15gm weights for my Special Select Newport 2 last week. I had 30gm weights in it and just did not feel right. Now that our greens are running in the teens, I have ten grams in the putter and it is really rolling nicely. I carry 10grm, 15grm, and 30grm weights in my kit. Back to putting with my Scotty. Put the PNG away.

The real question is are they actually from SC or are they aftermarket. Much like SureFit shaft adapters. There are aftermarket options available on the web. By and large what is on the net are aftermarket without pretext of being authentic. The pricing is too good to be authentic. In this case, generally not trying to deceive, either.

Like SureFit adapters, they are not tested to be 100% compatible. For resale, order genuine. If the price matters, then check for accuracy of the stated weight, don’t force threading, and check especially after use in wet conditions that moisture didn’t leak into the port. Is that really worth saving money if it damages a $300+ putter.

Full disclosure, I had bought a modified SC so it wouldn’t have collector or high resale value so I did try aftermarket weights to see how that might affect the feel. Was intending to adjust toe hang. Worked as well as adjusting the SureFit hosel to correct a slice. Neither made a change. My current gamers all have the factory weighs. The 34 inch modified putter was gifted to a nephew that needed a putter longer than his old 27 inch putter.
  9. Wouldn’t have a clue that’s one of the reasons I sold my select and kept my circa
