I catch myself looking behind the ball at times and eyeing the black line on the top line of my older Phantom X 5.5. I do like the clean topline and the longer white line found on the new 2022 Phantom 11.5, but I am afraid it will distract from my focus on the ball.

Do you find that longer white alignment line to be something you plainly notice when standing over the ball, or is it "stealthy?" Subliminal? Do you just shut it out?

Of course, when eyeing them in the shop I cannot stop staring at the line!

I have Newport sans alignment line. Everything is feel for me. I always found it distracting. Like tinsel, for those Festivus fans out there.

I sent my putter (Newport 2) to the "Scotty Custom Shop" and had an alignment dot added and the alignment line paint fill removed. So now my focus is not distracted ... only see the small alignment dot

I find myself lining the face square on my intended line and ensuring (hoping) that I hit the ball squarely on that lie every time with the right pace. They have been prepping our course for the Annual City Amateur and the greens have not been consistent. A bit on the slow side, which I hate. If the greens are running on the fast side, I find myself making a lot of putting with this technique.

I gave a Phantom X 9.5 a tryout last season. Yes, the top line is too distracting for me.
Going right back to my 5.5m. Back to focusing on the ball not the moving putter!
  6. I have the Special Select NP2 and it has the black flange line that similarly I found myself looking at so I did a little touchup myself and filled it in gray/silver so that it looks the same as the rest of the putter. Now I can still use it to line up but it doesn't distract otherwise.
