Starter placed thought of Hole- In-One as he greeted us. He said if any of us got a Hole-In-One we owed him a drink. Playing along we asked what was his request and did he want it as we made the turn to the second 9? He said a Manhattan with 2 cherries, at the turn would be nice. Off we went commenting how nice he was and the fun he started for our day. On the first par 3 I had to follow my son who nicely placed his ball on the green from the longer gold tees. I moved to the blue tees and shot the distance to the pin (138 yds). Knowing I had to take a stance with back leg turned in to favor a groin/quad pull, I focused on the swing and turn to avoid pain. Swing and contact felt great with ball almost heading perfectly at pin as if guided by a laser. My comment was "be right" and others said "oh that is a great shot, going to be close, go, it's in" . What a great start to a round . It was even more enjoyable when my son Nick said it was the first one he had actually seen on the course. We all celebrated and commented how I owed John a Manhattan with 2 cherries. After my son got a birdie on next hole we remembered we had "Birdie Juice" with and made a strong poor for the group and celebrated the Ace and Birdie. At the turn we did not forget John, to his surprise we delivered his drink and shared the thanks to him for starting are round with a fun challenge that we somehow managed to meet. Great day with son, wife and course staff as the word quickly spread around the course by radio from the Ambassador. Despite my Ace, my son still had best score as he should.
