Our home course is somewhat unique since the 18th hole is a par 3. It is a slightly elevated green and plays pretty long. Making it a little more challenging is the fact that you've just walked a very hilly course for the previous 4 hours and need to focus on making a solid swing with a long club.
The flag was upfront so I felt I could get a 5-iron there. My shot was a tad right of the green, but landed on the inside of a greenside bunker mound and rolled softly onto the green. We could not see where it wound up because of the elevated surface but thought it would be good.
None of my playing partners hit the green and as we approached we saw nothing on the putting surface. That led to the inevitable "check the hole" comments - which I did. Much to my surprise there was the Titleist logo staring back at me. Your heart skips a beat.
Lucky for me it was early afternoon and the grill room wasn't that crowded yet so it didn't cost me a fortune to celebrate :). It was also fun to go right from the green to the bar which I guess is a good thing about the 18th being a par 3!!
I truly believe the extra few yards I get out of an AVX helped land that ball in the hole that day! Thank you Titleist!!
