After the LPGA Ascendant tourney at my club (Golf Clubs at the Tribute), the club had a member Day to play the Old American course as it was set up like the final round of the LPGA tourney. I started golfing when I joined the club in Oct 2020 so needless to say I’ve never hit a hole in one.
On the par 3 Hole #7 on Old American, I used my 7-iron on a 161 yard distance. The green has a solid uphill slope so my 8-iron would have left me short with a light headwind. I hit the ball well but with the sun behind the green, we couldn’t see if it stopped on the green. A buddy said it looked like it was rolling up the hill and towards the shadow of the pin.
Once we pulled up I saw another buddies ball on the front of the green, but no other balls. My thought was I rolled off the back of the green which has a downhill slope, so I looked over there and saw one ball. My first buddy said that was his ball, so my immediate feeling is I rolled off too far towards the water.
I decided to stroll past the hole, thinking “no way it’s in there”, so I casually looked out the side of my eye as I walked past the hole, and there I saw a ball. I leaned over to see the logo on my ball, and started yelling! (I won’t share what I yelled).
My group froze for a second as if they saw a ghost, then the celebration ensued! I played terrible the rest of the round and didn’t care, I got a hole in one!
