I have suffered from this forever, i have been able to manage it over the last couple of years and get my handicap pretty low for me. My concern is that this swing habit leaves me in a cyclic pattern of good striking vs. poor striking. Three weeks ago i totally lost my stiking ability, which really stinks because i lost it at PGA National.
Prior to that i was very consistant hitting 80% or more greens in regulation, for a 3 week stretch. Now i'm missing 80% of the greens. The ball just doesn't jump off of the club and it's cutting when i don't want it to.
I saw my local pro yesterday and my alignment was way off. Down the line aim was about 30 yards right at 150yds. WAY OFF!!! But this felt comfortable to me for some reason. We started looking at my mechanics and worked on the over the top problem. I played 9 holes yesterday after the lesson and shot +4, which is not good for me on the front nine at my course.
I looked at my swing on iSwing last night and compared it to 3 weeks ago and the over the top is more severe, the troubling thing for me is that it's not that i'm casting the right hand that much, but more like my hip turn is really fast and my arms are basically dragged over the top.
Working with my pro has helped in some regards i got my alignment right and i'm now pulling the ball more than i'd like with a small cut on it. Feel is better but i still have mis hit dead shots.
The practice we put in made me feel like i was dropping my right side terribly and my hands aswell. I'm really frustrated with this up to this point, my club champ tourney is next weekend and my goal of playing in the champion flight is at risk...
Any suggestions?
