Grew up and played golf most of my life in North Texas on very grainy Bermuda grass. I must admit, the kikuyu grass around some of these San Diego greens are just as tricky. Thanks again for sharing Billy's clip.

Been in FL for 11 years and it's still a tough chip on Bermuda. Not ashamed to say that a lot of times, i'll use the putter from off the green, as there is little transition from the collar to the putting surface. Most teachers down here will tell you to get the ball rolling ASAP.

Technique works really well on into the grain chips on Zoysia fairways also.

Our greens are tifeagle bermuda and knowing how to recognize the grain helps. A very good tip and thank you for sharing. I wish we played on greens the size they play on. Ours are about one third their size and I tend to chip mine on the green quicker and rolling with the same results. On bigger greens I tend to follow his suggestions. Any suggestions to help around the green and save strokes. Thanks. Billy Ho plays out of the TPC @ Ponte Verde and they have some awesome greens, as we experienced at a TTI a few years ago. The technique seems simple, but as usual.....so much practice is required. Has to be simple chipping technique that, yes, requires practice, but that is simple....

This is useful information but the shot looked to be more of a pitch than a chip. I've found on actual chips shots to sweep the shot more than hit down on the shot without changing the forward shaft lean such that the shot will release.
