I know there are similar discussion threads about this, but I want to know everyones true experiences with the new Titleist golf balls. I have played both golf balls and thought that the new 1x was the ball for me. About a week ago I tried the new 1. What I have noticed is that the ball flies straighter, farther, and I can spin the ball more into the greens. Now, the spin into the greens could be in part due to me "re-grooving" my wedges after years of use. I have also noticed that with approach shots and partial wedge shots into the green, that the 1x feels firmer than last years model. From playing last years models, what I am noticing now is it seems to me that last years models "switched" as compared to this years model. Is this just me, or are there other TT members that have noticed this as well? Thanks for the feedback in advance that you can provide.

Trey,  I have commented about the same feeling previously.  I feel that the new 2011 edition of the prov 1x is harder and less responsive that the 2009 version.  I nf act I intend to try the prov 1 for a period of time just to see how it response.  The fact is after thinking about it I feel that the prov 1x 2011 edition is very similar to the sixon star x.  Both feel hard off the driver.  Up to now you and very few others have this feeling that the 2011 edition is not what you expected.  The more I think about it, the new ball may be for players' whose swing speeds exceed 105mph.  Primarily for the pros.  I have always played titleist balls because I feel that they are the most consistant re- distance, spin and reaction off irons.  I hope that I just had a few bad days when I was playing the prov 1x or that the prov 1 has the feel and response that I am looking for and expect from titleist.

    Trey & Vincent,

Great observations all around; I wanted to share with you some additional insights into the 2011 Pro V1 and Pro V1X.  As far as I know, the feeling of both balls should be about the exact same as the 2009 model since the Eurethane, and Eurethane density is the same formulation, but the dimple pattern is quite different which could make a difference in feel to some players.  From a performance stance, the gaps in spin from a Pro V1 to a Pro V1x has increased with the new ball, ie. the new Pro V1 spins more than the previous generation, and the current Pro V1x is similar to previous models.

If you were to hit 50 shots with both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x from 50 yards (partial swing) the player is not hitting the ball hard enough to compress the cores, thus the cover of the ball is doing all the work.  If you were to overlay your shots dispersion patterns, they would match up exactly.

Club-head speed is an issue that we constantly hear about, and yes is important.  The golf ball is engineered to react to how well it is being hit.  As you mentioned a player with a 105+ clubhead speed is going to be with a driver, which is not the best barometer to compare golf balls, (I have yet to run across a player who has a 100+ club-speed with irons, a tour player is swinging a 6 iron at about 90 mph.)

Tour player A is swinging a 6 iron at 90 mph hitting a Pro V1x with a launch angle of 16 degrees and will ideally put anywhere between 5000 and 6000 RPM's of spin on the ball.  The average amateur golfer who swings that same 6 iron at 80 miles per hour with the same 16 degree launch angle can still spin the ball (Pro V1x) in the 5500-6500 rpm window.  If both players where hitting a Pro V1, that ideal number might jump up to 5500-6500 rpm window.  Again, clubspeed is important, but proper shafts, club heads, and attack angle all play a part in creating spin.

I hope I shined some light, or just confused you guys a little more.

    Patrick,

I appreciate your response and the information.  However, the issue here is that I have played the prov 1x for years and found them to be responsive and in line with my swing and basic game.  What I commented on and have experienced is that the 2009 version and 2011 version are significantly different.  I played  the two different balls the same day under the same weather and playing conditions and found the 2009 prov 1x to be softer and more responsive.  The 2011 edition  felt hard off the driver  and the irons, around the greens its response was similar to the 2009 version.

Patrick, your analysis and conclusion does not take into account  an individuals actual playing experience with the two golf balls. It appears you echo titleist literature and advertising.  Unless you have personnal experience, you shouldn't dismiss anothers comments.

I have to say there is a very noticeable difference. I played @ Bethpage Red with the wind gusting up to 40mph. The ProV1x just pierced through the wind. At 50degree weather the ball does not compress as much but I was still able to hit 270 off the tee. My swing speed is around 100-110mph. However, when it's breezy... swing easy. Maybe my 910D3 driver had something to do with that. Also, I played 1 ball for 18 holes without a scratch on it. as advertised this ball is extremely durable. My opinion, and we all know about opinions, this ball is better than previous years' ProV's. Nevertheless, I shot a 92 from the tips. Could've done a lot better but I made some not so smart decisions. I still beleive this was a good round being my 2nd time out this season.

I started off the year with the old Pro V1's and was getting way to much side spin with my irons. Lat week I decided to try out the new 2011 Pro V1x and I have been very happy with them so far. I'm getting great distance off the tee and my control with my wedges and irons are so much better. I played my local course today and shot a 73 +4 with the Pro V1x. I love them so far and I don't see myself changing balls anytime soon.

Both of the new balls are simply amazing. Very good on the course!!!
