Pro V1x vs. Left Dash vs. Wilson Staff Model X

  1. My regular go-to ball has been Pro V1x. I found it had a bit too much spin with the driver, so I played a few rounds recently with the Wilson Staff Model X.

Surprisingly, the Wilson ball flew straighter than Pro V1x. There wasn't a ton of difference in distance, but the straighter flight helped to keep the ball in the fairway.

Thinking about trying the Pro V1x Left Dash to see if it'll have similar result with the Wilson.

Anyone tried regular Pro V1x and Left Dash, was there difference in the driver spin?

I am active on MyGolfSpy and read their posts. I have tested for them and do not always agree with the evaluations or the products that are on the site. A number of years ago, the product I tested, a putter, was got a less than favorable review from me, and I have not been asked to test again. This is a Titleist site and a place to talk Titleist. Am I the only one that agrees with Dale's comments. We are somewhat protective of what we are here for. After all there are a number of us who have that TT Ambassador tag in our possession. Customer Brand Ambassadors, who are loyal customers who love a brand and voluntarily promote it through word of mouth, online reviews, or user-generated content. Thanks Titleist for selecting us.

I've recently played with one of each. Could not tell much difference in spin on the course; would need to jump on a monitor to properly observe that. Overall, left dash did fly lower and felt like a bit less spin.

We are really not interested in hearing about other brands on this site. As for ball fitting, the driver is the last club you should factor in determining the best ball for you. Performance in irons and short game should be the biggest factor and then adjust your driver by altering loft or even shaft to get the spin numbers you need.

So I shouldn't mention that the Pro V1 outperforms all those other brands?
I've tried them all, and I can't tell you which one is my chosen ball, but I can tell you that when we find lost balls while playing the rule is my buddies can have anything that doesn't say Pro V1, Pro V1x, or AVX on it. My game is not very consistent, but one of those 3 always makes it a better day.

My point being to the guy telling us the his Wilson ball is better, we really don’t believe it or want to hear it on this forum. He might truly believe it but he can either post it on a Wilson site or respectfully keep it to himself.

Maybe a tad harsh, but the spirit it is intended is spot on. There are many forums to discuss golf equipment, but this one is sponsored by Titleist. A full bag is not a requirement to join TT, but some decorum would be in order. Regardless of the equipment you use, Dale is correct in the order of importance for selection
Titleist is the number 1 ball in golf for other reasons than advertising. Titleist designs and manufacturers all their balls in plants they own. My Golf Spy uses the Pro-V line as the industry standard for quality, for a reason. No one here expects Titleist to chase brands that are outsourced to third party manufacturers when often multiple “brands” share the same dimple pattern known to come from the same plant. Anyone is welcome to select any equipment for their use, but politely compare Titleist to other brands on sites like GolfWrx. Balls or clubs.
Similar to Barry, I never play a ball found - unless it is a pristine X. Other players are welcome to put those in play. Anything else in good shape they don’t use I donate to First Tee. Even other Titleist balls including the V.

I don't see a problem with thoughts on comparing any equipment on this site. Just adds to the conversations. We all know Tutleist is #1 but if people have thoughts listen to them

Totally agree. I think Dale came across a bit too harsh. No need for that. It is just a conversation.
  11. I’m a golf ball junkie. Tried every premium ball on the market besides Wilson, miz and PXG. I always made my way back to the prov1x. I was using the Z-Star diamond for 2 years. My swing speed with driver is 120-123 and irons are 93-95. I noticed the height was the same but was down 300-500rpm with the left dash. I did gain 5-7 yard with the left dash but it doesn’t make a difference if they’re both in the fairway and if it’s not 10-15 yards apart. At the end of the day, it’s really what matters on the green. The left dash does not spin as much on chips and pitch shots. It is 100% firmer than the 1x if you can definitely feel like you’re hitting a rock if you heel/toe your chip or pitch shots. Putting, it is very firm and clicky.

I just did a Titleist professional ball fitting and the ProV1x left dash was my surprise winner - partly because I can spin the ball at will. Just starting to play it (left dash) and it spins notably less off the tee the only place it makes any difference. I used to empirically play ProV1 for the feel, but I am not noticing the firmness of the ball on flush hits. Too much off center and it is a firmer feel but I get a decent miss.

I switched from an Original GoLo to a Spider Tour X and the putting feel is superb, it is click with the GoLo. (Sorry Scotty)

@DaleV - more of my bag is another brand but many Titleist products ... but NOT the ball - the one piece of equipment in play on EVERY SHOT! I played nothing but HOGAN and Titleist for my first 40 years of play. I try all kinds of balls for the heck of it but almost 65 years preferring Titleist balls.

I cannot recommend a Titleist Professional Ball fitting highly enough

I’d love a Titleist ball fitting. However, over the last couple of months I’ve called customer service twice and have yet to receive a call back… We get ball fitting emails every few days with a link to sign up for a virtual consultation, but when you click on it the calendar is blank.

Last week, I went to the authorized Titleist fitter where I got my new GT 2 and they fit me into another brands ball despite me saying I’d prefer a Titleist.

Yes. At a slower CHS, the X spin holds the ball in the air longer, for me. I can barely get a Dash above the turf. This won’t be your case, but does show there is a difference.
Even the V is another way to reduce driver spin. Either V or X are equal for top players. Flight characteristics are how pros make a choice. It is a misconception that the X is for the best players.

    Lethbridge,

All I’m going to say is I use a Prov1x. However this time of year we have 8 million trees on the course each with 8 million leaves ( slight exaggeration) so tend to use leave balls because if one gets lost in leaves oh well throw another one down ( leaf rule at our club). Man do I miss using my Prov 1X balls. None of the other balls match the performance or feel off of the club of the Prov1X.

Yes. The left dash spins a little less and feels a little firmer. I’ve noticed lower ball flight with the driver. Don’t know about going straighter though.
  17. I was lucky enough to be invited to Woburn performance centre for a fitting. Got fitted into a left dash after being a pro v1x user for as long as I can remember. Was great to see the numbers, spin rate come down 500rpm to bring it back into a more optimum performance. (Always been a high spin player) noticed gains in almost a club length distance wise, and no noticeable changes around the greens.

We worked from wedges back to driver, in fact only hit 4/5 balls with a driver as it worked so well. Well worth getting a ball fitting, I personally like to see the numbers and it really was an eye opener. Andy the fitter on the day was superb.
