Titleist built a web-centric tool to help you with this selection, scroll down to the "Get Started" button: http://www.titleist.com/golf-ball-fitting/
It works quite well, provided you are honest in your self-assessment.

I used the online tool and it told me that the Pro V1x was the ball for me. Just to check it out, I tried a sleeve of the Pro V1 balls and I would have to say that the online ball fitting tool is an excellent place to start. The difference between the balls, for me, wasn't huge, but it was noticable.

Hi Wayne,
I've used the online tool and it recommended the Pro V1x for me so that I can get a little more distance. Like you, the actual difference in performance was not huge. But in my opinion, the softer feel off the face of the Pro V1 is just more sexy and makes the game a lot more enjoyable for me.

BEEN PLAYING BOTH FOR MANY YEARS. A SIMPLE...PRO V1 SPINS MORE AND PRO V1X GOES FARTHER IS HOW I DESCRIBE THE BALLS.
AT HOME I USE PROV1. IF I WERE GOING TO ST. ANDREWS,,LOL,,,I WOULD USE PRO V1X

The Pro V1 has more spin off the driver, which could exaggerate your misses left and right off the tee. I've found that the Pro V1x is straighter off the driver, but spins less into the greens. Pro V1 has a softer feel off the putter too.

It's funny. I can only offer subjectivity here. But the 1x felt better around the greens and I am a very good putter. It just felt softer, more receptive to the putter and putting stoke. In contrast, the 1 felt like I was hitting a harder, blockier object.
I am happy to hear all the stuff here to help me get my golf head on straight.

Great question, when I was at Titleist Oceanside last fall the fitter had me hitting both with my irons and woods then recommended I consider the ProV1 since I do not spin the ball much...similar as he pointed out to Adam Scott whom uses the ProV1. I believe picking on ball and playing it so you know the tendancies such as the ProV1 has a great feel and spin around the greens for my game however the ProV1x while it may go a little farther does not offer as much "touch" around the greens to me. Regardless, they are both awesome balls but I would have you buy three of each model then play 18 holes changing back and forth to see what differences they offer to you...the answer will be obvious IMHO!
Good Luck, Chris

Distance will be about the same but ProV1 will have more spin. botth are great balls

I have been playing the ProV1x for several years and have been really happy with it's performance....until my last round when I put in play three brand new ProV1's...I was really confused and amazed that I gained about 10-15yards on almost every shot and hit the ball straighter and more consistent...so next time out for me it will be the ProV1...
Just keep experimenting and go with what feels and performs best.

Hello,
you don't need the distance so you should use the softer pro v1 . More spin, and softer and the green
