    Our club just finished the big three day tournament of the year this weekend which is a four ball. Monday our club is closed so I took advantage of the situation. Got my ball retriever and hit the big lake where the last three finishing holes are located and another green that is surrounded by water on three sides. Found a total of 53 balls and I can tell you Titleist balls are by far were the most popular ball of the tournament. Surprisingly I found about a dozen or so out of the water nestled in thick grass or in the rocks that surround the lake. I will have no issue playing these previously owned balls as most were in the water no more than 72 hours. I would say I have about 3 dozen ProV1x balls that are my favorite. Anybody else hawk golf balls ?

    Sounds like you made out like a bandit! There is a retiree at my home course that lives off of #3 fairway that probably has thousands of golf balls in his basement in plastic grocery bags. Every once in a while he'll walk out and carry me some, so I leave the ball hawking to him!

    I know some folks feel that it is beneath them to play experienced golf balls and would only play store bought balls. I do buy store bought balls on occasion when there is a reduced price but it will be awhile since I have so many really good balls in my arsenal now. There are many advantages of playing experienced golf balls. They are free, they play as well as a new ball, when you loose one there is not as much as a sting as loosing a brand new ball, it is good exercise hunting them, it is fun. Think about when you were a child and hunted Easter eggs. You get to play and compare different brands to see which ball really fits your game.

    I played a course last weekend that, while being surrounded by a neighborhood is common, the sight I saw on the 4th hole was new.  A couple of kids, no more than 8 were sitting behind a table in their backyard selling found golf balls back to the golfers.  I have to hand it to the kids and the parents, that's a pretty darn good idea and a great thing to teach kids.  

    Only downside of the idea was that it's only the 4th hole.  Catch me about 15 or 16 when the ball supply is running lower.  It's all supply and demand.

    Carl, I hawk golf balls. I give them to the owner of the club, he then resells them. I in turn get a little better "deal" on items I purchase. steve b

    Absolutely, sometimes even a little competition during a round. Most balls found, wins.
