I have been playing ProV1 for some time but its hard to control with my driver and other longer clubs. I really love that I can stop the prov1 on the green with my 7 iron on down to the wedges. Now that the new prov1x is softer feeling, I was considering the switch. Will I have the same "stopping" power on the green with the new ProV1X's to go along with less side spin of the driver?? Thanks, Jaxon

I also made the switch to the X because my short irons and wedges were spinning way to much and I also felt that it produced to high of a spin rate with my long clubs but I'm glad I made the switch and I'm sure you will also

I suggest test both balls together for a practice round.  I did and I found no real difference with my short game but did notice the difference off the tee, especially with my driver.  I like the feeling of the softer Pro V1 but appreciate scoring better with the Pro V1x.

Jack, I have always played the ProV1's as well- and really love the incredible stopping power that they provide on the shorter irons and around the green too. Recently, (3 rounds ago) I switched to the ProV1X. So far, I feel like I have added distance to most clubs ( and a noticeable difference in sidespin), but am not getting exactly the same stopping power that I am used to with the ProV1's . Despite that, I'm going to give the V1X at least another 10+ rounds before I even consider switching back.  The new V1x's are really close to the old V1's as far as "stopping" power on the greens.  I would give them an extended tryout and compare for overall scores.

I had a chance to test drive the new ProV1x before they were released and definitely found them softer then in the past.  They were outstanding around the greens with very good checking ability.  With my driver I did notice an increase in spin but some of that is related to some swing flaws that i am working on.  Distance control was solid with the shorter scoring clubs.  I tend to hit the ball higher so I don't get the aggressive spin that the better players re able to put on a ball but on the other hand I play Pinehurst #2 alot and with those hard fast greens my ball flight is better suited to hold those type greens.  The ball works admirably under #2 conditions.

  6. Jaxon, my short term experience is yes....however it might take a few months with the balls to truly develop a better opinion.  I know that I am considering the same thing that you are going through!

    Good Luck!

    Jaxon,

Based on what I have read and heard, both balls are very similar with regards to checking up on the greens.  I would suggest though that you get a sleeve of each and play a practice round using both balls (assuming you can play a round playing two balls at your home course).  That way you can see both balls in action from tee to green.

Best of luck with your testing and selection.
