Hey Tom,

That's a tough call - I've used both successfully - and enjoyed playing them both very much.  The ProV1X goes a little further, but not much, you can drive the ProV1 a long long way as well.  The ProV1 feels softer to me, and has more action/spin on shots into the green, which is really nice, but the ProV1X has plenty of spin as well.

I realize I am not really answering your question - because I think they are both excellent and you can't really go wrong either way.  I'd play a couple of rounds with one, and a couple with the other, keep your stats (GIR, f'ways hit, ups and downs, driving distance, etc) and go from there.
