You got a good question. On the west coast of Florida one can buy reconditioned Prov1 and Prov1x golf balls

for $20 per dozen. They are marked as refurb in small letters and the box looks like a Titleist package but you

can tell it is not. I admit I have purchased a few boxes over the last two years and there are times I get the feeling

the refurbs are not really Titleists and sometimes I am convinced they are real. Being a 12 GHIN handicap player

my golf game is not consistant enough to be a true judge.

In order to eliminate the question of being real or fake I purchase the Pro v1 in my golf pro shop and I am confident

they are real.

I bought a recyled package early on when I was losing 4-6 balls a round. They weren't Titleist, but the balls met the advertised description. The model had some updates, so the lettering indicates there were different versions and some were logo balls. None behaved differently than a box I had purchased from a shop. Note I said recycles versus refurbished. One local driving range (glorified cow pasture) had "new" refurbished balls at the beginning of the system. The beauty was I could check my ball contact by the white imprint they left on my irons. Just couldn't judge contact by ball flight - in some cases it had to be the ball that caused some strange flights. So part of the savings may be doing your own inspection to see if they look/feel like they will still play the same as new balls but played for a round. Others have wondered if the balls have been aged in ponds. Refurbished leads me to wonder why they couldn't have been sold as gently used recycled balls. At some point you want to have some confidence in your ball. I still mishit enough balls that I would lose 3-4 ProVs and maybe 1 or 2 Velocity around, so my confidence will be with Velocity (if I still wasn't using a stash of NXTs).
