Can someone please tell me the difference between a prov1 and an prov1X in simple terms? And a follow up question to that, after hearing about my type of game, which one would be best ball for me to play? I'm a 9 handicap who has a good short game and I am good on the greens....I am pretty long off the tee but there is a little too much action left to right off the tee (I am a lefty btw) one drive and then too much action right to left the next drive. please help. thanks for the answers!! david
  2. From what I have been told and experienced playing both balls "spin" is the key difference....the ProV1x has less spin.  That is as simple as I can describe it.

There is a great tool for your use online at http://www.titleist.com/golf-ball-fitting/

    Hope this helps!

it does and thanks. But from what I first described in my question about my own game would less spin or more spin suit my game? I am little wild off the tee but when in the fairway par usually follows...thanks

prov1x, has less spin off the driver and long irons, about the same with short irons and wedges. just had a fitting with the Titleist Tour ball fitter.
  5. You'd obviously want a ball with less spin, which would be the Pro V1x. You DON'T want a ball that produces a high spin rate, which would be the Pro V1, because, your "wild" shots will be much worse. I'd suggest...1) Go through a complete ball fitting through an authorized Titleist rep...if you can't do that...2) Buy a sleeve of each ball. Play both balls for a hole or 2 (or more if you can) to see which one you're more comfortable with.

Excellent advice, I would agree...the best way is to experiment...I would only add that you should consider adding the NXT and NXT Tour to the mix.  Just a thought...you never know what you discover, you may find you like them better!

prov1 has more spin off the tee and with long irons, both prov1 and prov1x have about the same spin with short irons and wedges....was told this and proven to me by a Titleist ball fitter on a monitor recently at our club. sounds like the prov1x is the ball for you and me. We both need less spin off the tee and long approach shots. but want the same spin from our wedges..hope this helps.

I have always been an avid Pro V1 player and when I'm not swing well I well I'll tend to start hitting sweeping hooks and those hook really got me this year especially at the US Open Qualifier. Shortly after I tried the Pro V1X and I am so amazed at how much less I hook the ball there has been a ton of shots that I have hit now where i was saying wow if that was the PRO V1 I would be OB or in the hazard so from what you havr said I would say go buy a Dozen of pro v1x's and see for yourself.

as far as around the green and 75 yards and in I can't tell a significant difference.

    Good Luck!

Well i played w/ the 2011 nxt tour ball for the first time on friday...and the results were very positvive...the ball had much less sidespin off the tee then the prov1 or the prov1x. i hit almost every fairway or was just off it in first cut....the ball held up really well too- i lost one in the thick stuff but the other two looked pretty clean by day's end. i saw no noticeable differences in the short game, putted really well- all two-putts and one one-putt... i am pretty sure the nxt tour is the ball for me. thanks to this site and to chris c and others who suggested trying tour ball. thanks! david
