The official equipment counts from this week's Sony Open in Hawaii are in - and the numbers are convincing.
Titleist is the overwhelming top choice of more of the players in the field of 144 from tee-through-green ... from the GOLF BALL through EVERY major GOLF CLUB category.
Titleist is once again the overwhelming golf ball of choice among players at the Sony Open in Hawaii, with 76% of the field (109 players) trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball for their success, more than seven times the nearest competitor with 10% (14 players).
Titleist is also the top choice in the driver (45), fairway metal (48), hybrid (25) and irons (41) categories. Vokey Design Wedges topped the approach, sand and lob wedge (213) category and Scotty Cameron putters were the top choice among players with 49 models in play.
Titleist drivers continue to gain momentum on the PGA Tour with 11 players putting a new TS2 or TS3 into competitive play for the first time this week. In fact, this week at Waialae Country Club, there are more new Titleist TS2 (10) and TS3 (28) model drivers in play (38 of 45 Titleist drivers) than all of the nearest competitors driver models combined (32)..
Among those players making the switch to TS is Kevin Tway, who enjoyed a fast stat at last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions after he put a new TS3 (9.5) driver in play for the first time in competition.
According to Titleist Tour Representative J.J. VanWezenbeeck, Tway tested with the fitting team at his home club in Florida during the off season.
“Kevin was amazed how much speed the driver had on Trackman," said J.J., "but we talked to him about speed only being part of the equation. We then went on course and setup Trackman on 6 to 8 different tee boxes and had him hit his old driver, and then two different TS's. While the TS was longest every time, the key for him - and us - was that it was also the straightest - which at 185 MPH of ball speed is crucial.”
