#1 DRIVER
Titleist was the most played driver at The American Express with 50 drivers in play, 17 more than the nearest competitor. Forty-five of the Titleist drivers in play were new TSi models, with 13 players teeing up TSi without an agreement.
- One non-contracted player – who entered the week at 27th in the World Ranking and finished T-8 – switched to both a NEW TSi3 9.0° driver (Mitsubish Diamana D+ Limited 70 TX) and NEW TSi2 16.5° fairway metal (Mitsubish Diamana D+ Limited 80 TX) following extensive offseason testing.
- “He reached out to us over the offseason and said he’d heard a lot of really good things about the driver,” said Titleist Tour Rep J.J. Van Wezenbeeck. “We were going back and forth on phone and text, I was building different options and shipping them to him, and then getting feedback. He was really impressed with the ball speeds he was getting with TSi3, but the big thing for him was the overall performance. The driver he was playing last year, he felt that when he missed it, his misses were big. With TSi3, the misses were really tight. He loved the head shape and the feel, but it was that total performance package that really stood out.”

- Gary Woodland (T-16) was one of seven more players to make the switch to the NEW Pro V1 and Pro V1x models.
- Woodland had spent the last few weeks getting dialed in to his NEW Pro V1x after discussing his performance goals for the season with Fordie Pitts, Titleist’s Golf Ball R&D Consultant on the PGA Tour. “Gary wanted a little more trajectory and new Pro V1x is giving him that additional height while hitting all his targets for distance, spin and feel,” Pitts said.
- Michael Thompson put NEW Pro V1 in play, leading to his best finish (T-5) since his victory at last July’s 3M Open.

- “Patton immediately commented on how good the new TSi3 was in terms of looks, sound and feel, which was the overwhelming theme from players we tested with,” said Titleist Tour Rep J.J. Van Wezenbeeck. “We also heard a lot about consistency of ball flight.”
