Titleist golf ball loyalist Brooke Henderson (Pro V1), the No. 2 player in the world, successfully defended her title at the LPGA Cambia Portland Classic in wire-to-wire fashion with a four-stroke victory.
"To repeat and try to defend a championship for the first time and be able to do it is, I think, a really big deal," said Henderson after the victory. "Third win on the LPGA Tour is really cool."
The 18-year-old, who won her first LPGA Tour event in Portland last year, closed with a 1-under-par 71 en route to a 14-under-par 274 victory total
She becomes the second wire-to-wire winner on the LPGA this season.
The first was Henderson’s fellow Pro V1 golf ball loyalist Ha Na Jang at the Coates Golf Championship in February.
It marked the third career win and second of the season for Henderson who won her first major, the Women's PGA Championship, three weeks ago.
"Getting the major championship win just a couple weeks ago in Washington and knowing that I can win a major championship was definitely a huge momentum changer, confidence boost," said Henderson.
"And then coming off a win here, I think it's really is going to give me a lot of confidence. I know the U.S. Open, it takes a lot of skill, patience, and I'm really excited for it."
The U.S. Women’s Open will be contested this week at CordeValle in San Martin, California.
THE COUNTS: Titleist was the most relied upon golf ball at the Cambia Portland Classic with 107 players trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x for their success this week, nearly 12 times the nearest competitor with 9.
Henderson’s win marks the 12th for Titleist golf ball loyalists on the 2016 LPGA Tour, four times the nearest competitor with 3.
