Titleist golf ball loyalist Scott McCarron (Pro V1x) captured the Principal Charity Classic for his first career PGA Tour Champions title, birdieing the final three holes to close with a 7-under-par 65 and a one-stroke victory.
“Once I got to 16,” McCarron recounted after the win, “I said, `You know, if I can birdie the last three I might have a chance to close it out.’ I played some great holes the last couple of holes.”
The 50-year-old McCarron finished at 15-under-par 201 to edge two players, including fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Billy Andrade (Pro V1). Andrade fired a course-record 63 on Saturday to move into a three-way tie for the overnight lead.
McCarron played his final 47 holes without a bogey.
THE COUNTS: Titleist was the most relied upon golf ball at the Principal Charity Classic with 59 players in the field trusting a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, more than six times the nearest competitor with nine.
McCarron’s win was the 10th for Titleist golf ball loyalists through the first 11 events on the 2016 PGA Tour Champions.
